Job: Ursinus College – Instructional Technology Librarian

The Instructional Technology Librarian is the primary manager of the College’s Learning Management System. Drawing on expertise in both technology and pedagogy, they collaborate with faculty on the incorporation of technology into their teaching in innovative and effective ways and help them evaluate and select appropriate technologies that can be meaningfully integrated into assignments, projects, and whole courses. Additionally, the Instructional Technology Librarian participates in LIT’s Digital Fluency Program, shares information about effective pedagogical practices related to technology and information literacy and keeps abreast of trends in the use of technology in teaching and learning in higher education. They contribute to and manage projects related to the implementation of new and changing educational technologies in the classroom and in other ways that directly affect the student and faculty experience at the College.

The Instructional Technology Librarian is an integral part of the Research, Teaching & Learning Services team in LIT, and works closely with LIT colleagues to provide a student-centered approach to instructional technology and digital fluency services for the campus community. They are an important part of broader LIT training initiatives that directly involve the faculty and issues related directly to teaching and learning. If they have a Master of Library Science, they will hold governing faculty status, which entails participation in Faculty Meetings and the potential to serve in an at-large capacity on faculty committees. As time allows, they may also serve as an academic advisor for first-year students.

• Collaborate with faculty and academic programs to develop effective ways of meaningfully integrating technology into the classroom, and work with faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of the incorporated technologies.
• Manage the College’s Learning Management System (LMS) working with appropriate IT colleagues, and work with faculty to incorporate the LMS into courses in effective ways.
• Working with the Associate Director, determine which technologies have the greatest potential to contribute most to student success in all academic departments and advocate for their implementation.
• Develop training sessions, workshops and appropriate training documentation on new and established instructional technologies, technologies that enhance the ability of faculty and students to communicate and work better together, and on pedagogies enhanced or enabled by the use of technology in the classroom.
• Participate in LIT’s digital fluency program, which includes presenting both instructional technology and library research workshops.
• Support Open Educational Resources (OER) and Universal Design initiatives.
• Manage student workers in the Digital Liberal Arts Fellows program.
• Provide both in-person and online opportunities for faculty to share their teaching experiences using technological tools and technology-enhanced pedagogies.
• Serve on working groups and other committees as determined to be appropriate based on the goals and objectives of the groups and committees.
• Keep abreast of current trends, best practices and innovations in the field of instructional technology. Share with faculty and IT/Library colleagues.

• Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science, Instructional Technology, or related field
• Experience in instructional design or teaching and knowledge of pedagogies in higher education
