    Position Summary
    The University Archivist acts as steward of La Salle University’s history. The University Archivist coordinates and manages a program of digital, multimedia, and paper based records and historical documents in the University Archives.

    Essential Duties
    · Respectfully represent La Salle University and Connelly Library to constituents, patrons, students, faculty, and the community.
    · Serve as subject area liaison to academic department(s) in which the librarian has expertise, providing instruction, reference, assignment design support, and other outreach as needed in collaboration with the Head of Information Literacy and Outreach.
    · Oversee all University Archives functions, including appraisal, acquisitions, processing, reference, outreach, digitization, and digital preservation.
    · Develop and maintain plans, specifications, procedures and manuals to support the effective collection and management of all archival content
    · Develops, maintains, and oversees disposition of all formal records and historical archives pertaining to the work of the University; serves as principal resource and point of contact for inquiries.
    · Shape the Archives online presence and marketing of collections and services to the University community and the public.
    · Participates in the management of the institutional repository.
    · Performs special projects of institutional value for the University; interacts with other University departments regarding project activities.
    · Participates in the management of the institutional repository.
    · Identify and collect University content of enduring value.
    · Work with University administrators to develop a University records management policy, with an emphasis on records requiring permanent retention in the Archives.
    · Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates archives staff in accordance with University policy.

    Secondary Responsibilities
    · Participate in general Library policy formulation, budgeting, and planning.
    · Serve on Library and University committees and task forces including appointments made by the Faculty Senate.
    · Seeks, identifies, and pursues funding opportunities to support initiatives; writes and prepares grant proposals as appropriate.
    · Participates in the work of regional and national professional organizations and societies in relevant archives areas.
    · Attend professional development meetings and workshops as able to develop relevant job skills.
    · Participate in University activities as able.
    · Participate in cross-training of other library departments as able to broaden personal understanding and strengthen overall library staff and resources.
    · Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    · ALA-accredited professional library degree, or another discipline with coursework in archives OR master’s degree and successful completion of the Academy of Certified Archivists examination.
    · Minimum 5 years’ experience as an archivist or records manager.
    · Knowledge of current copyright law and its application in libraries and universities.
    · Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.

    Preferred Qualifications
    · Three years’ experience working with historical collections in a library/archives or museum setting.
    · Experience managing an archive or institutional repository
    · Knowledge of archives principles and practices, including appraisal, acquisitions, processing, reference, outreach, and preservation.
    · Knowledge of current standards and best practices for digital libraries, digital archives, and digital preservation.
    · Familiarity with the current scholarly communication landscape, including institutional repositories and open access.
    · Experience with HTML, CSS, and Web 2.0 technologies; photo editing software such as Photoshop
    · Knowledge of metadata standards (Dublin Core, EAD, DACS, MARC, etc.) and digital imaging standards.
    · Experience with social media, exhibitions or grant-writing to advance digital projects.
    · Experience with digital repository platform(s) and with XML and digital content creation/transformation tools.
