The University of Pennsylvania Libraries’ Collections and Scholarly Communications division offers an exciting opportunity to develop the Libraries’ programs in information literacy and to support student success. Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for Academic Engagement, the Student Engagement Librarian will lead ongoing initiatives for information literacy, develop innovative and effective programs in collaboration with subject librarians, librarians in the Educational Technology and Learning Management department, and in coordination with partner offices across campus. They will work with colleagues in Academic Engagement to manage the Libraries’ live chat, online reference tickets, and LibGuides services, provide support for citation management, and supervise interns at Van Pelt’s information desk. The Student Engagement Librarian will work with Arts & Culture librarians to develop workshops and supporting materials for visual literacy and with librarians across the Libraries to support annual programming around new student orientation, the Prefreshman Program, and the first- and second-year experiences. The Student Engagement Librarian will provide support for the Libraries’ collaborations with the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn First Plus program to connect students to texts and services and develop opportunities to collaborate with Penn’s Cultural Centers to offer opportunities for student learning and success. The Student Engagement Librarian will work with colleagues to create a learning environment that is inclusive and welcoming and that supports the University’s diverse community.
Job DescriptionKey Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with subject librarians, the Educational Technology and Learning Management department, and colleagues from across the Libraries and the Penn Campus to support existing initiatives and to develop innovative programming that supports students in becoming engaged and critical thinkers.
Partner with offices and programs across campus (e.g., Critical Writing Program, Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, International Student and Scholar Services, New Student Orientation & Academic Initiatives, Grad Center@ Penn) to build on and to enrich existing opportunities to introduce students to the Libraries’ services and collections and to develop information literacy skills
Manage and participate in the live chat, online reference ticket, and LibGuide initiatives and head the Academic Engagement citation management subcommittee
Lead the Libraries’ collaboration with the University’s Penn First Plus program—specifically through connecting students with texts and services. Work with student-peers to provide bridge to the Libraries’ collections and services.
Manage interns at the Libraries’ information desk
Work with colleagues to create a learning environment that supports the University’s diverse community and that is inclusive and welcoming
Maintain current awareness of trends in information literacy. Participate in initiatives, events, and planning in these areas at Penn and beyond. Engage actively with the community; seek opportunities for collaboration.
Qualifications:MLIS or equivalent degree/experience
3-5 years Professional experience in higher education, academic libraries, and working with students
Demonstrated experience in providing and developing information literacy and student centered programming and initiatives
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to coordinate and manage planning and activities with a diverse population of faculty, students, staff, and members of the general public; a commitment to inclusion and accessibility

Budgeted Pay Range: $70,000 – $75,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
Pay Range: $50,684.00 – $77,716.00
