Spotlight: Vanesa Evers

What is an upcoming or recent accomplishment or project that you’re excited about?

A recent accomplishment that I am excited about is the Woodcrest Digitization project that I managed. It was my first major undertaking in this position. I trained a dedicated part-time staff member on using a flatbed scanner and showed her the importance of digitization. Together, we were able to upload 15 years of yearbooks online in a matter of months. This was a significant undertaking with only one person scanning, and my work on quality control, metadata entry and CONTENTdm. During this project, I was grateful to have Jill Borin, a TCLC member, assist me in CONTENTdm troubleshooting.

What important news or projects are happening in your library?

Holy Spirit Library’s “Digitizing America’s First Citizen Saints Project,” was recently awarded an NEH grant under the Humanities Collections and Reference Resources program. I serve on the project team as the Collection Archivist and Collection Metadata Specialist. We are excited for the project to come to full fruition in the upcoming months after we are done processing the collection.

What’s a recent book you read for fun or what are you binge watching?

What a good question to ask when many of us have probably spent more time watching television now than we have watched in years! I am actually watching Grey’s Anatomy for the first time. I am enjoying it so far, and have made it to Season 5! Over the last year and a half, I have re-watched How to Get Away with Murder, Living Single, Girlfriends, and Sister Sister. Over the last year and a half, I have also listened to over 30 audiobooks. The last two audiobooks I listened to were Roxane Gay’s Hunger and Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Talents.
