Circulation and Access Services Assistant
SUMMARY: The Circulation and Access Services Assistant reports to the Circulation and Access Service Supervisor and assists in daily management of the circulation desk and supervision of the student assistants. The Circulation and Access Service Assistant will also be responsible for providing Interlibrary Loan service and participating in other library projects.
WORK SCHEDULE: Tuesday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Circulation and access services
- Supervise student workers at the circulation desk and handle the circulation and management of print items, electronic items, video-audio items, and other library materials;
- Answer basic questions about the library and computer use, and direct users to appropriate sources of answers;
- Register patrons and outside users, maintain electronic patron records;
- Handle reserve materials for faculty and students, and lend laptops to students;
- Open the library in the mornings, close the library on Fridays and Saturdays;
- Oversee the process of shelving library materials and shelf reading;
- Process computer-generated overdue notices and collect fines as needed.
- Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service
- Communicate with students, faculty and staff about ILL;
- Receive and process ILL requests from the university community;
- Scan materials for electronic delivery to borrowing libraries, pack and ship ILL packages to borrowing libraries;
- Receive and process returned material;
- Record ILL copyright compliance documentation.
- Books and AV Processing
- Receive, unpack and verify book and AV orders;
- Process all material including, labeling, stamping, attaching security tags and covering books prior to placing them out for shelving;
- Process deselected books and other material for donation and recycling.
- Perform other job-related duties assigned by the supervisor or requested by other library staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma (college degree preferred) and one-year library experience, excellent organizational skills and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written), an ability and desire to work collaboratively with library staff to serve students, staff and faculty, as well as local community users, basic computer skills, and willingness to learn library procedures in an electronic environment. Some supervisory experience is preferred.

Information Literacy / Collection Development Librarian
SUMMARY: Provides reference and instructional services to students, faculty, staff and other library users, in the library and virtually.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Designs and leads the library’s efforts to develop information literacy competencies in students and to assess library effectiveness in these outcomes, in collaboration with the director, the faculty and the library staff.
- Develops, schedules and delivers library instruction sessions, handouts and online instruction resources (tutorials, pathfinders, Blackboard, etc.) on the Gwynedd Valley campus. Also delivers library instruction for off campus sites, using Adobe Connect software distance learning technologies.
- Provides reference assistance to students, faculty, staff and other users of the University library in person, online and via email and telephone.
- Develops and delivers orientation sessions for incoming students, including the First Year Experience Library Orientation and FYE 1001 Mercy Today project.
- In consultation with the Library Director, develops and maintains the reference collection and participates in other collection development activities.
- Reviews and recommends online resources for addition or deletion.
- Assists other library staff to learn new resources;
- Develops policies for public services in the library in consultation with the library director.
- Oversees all aspects of developing and maintaining the Library’s collections at the scope and caliber that best support the University’s mission and academic programs.
- Develops, in consultation with the director, and coordinates development and implementation of the Library’s collection policies and strategies.
- Works closely with librarians and the University community to purchase appropriate resources in all formats and to evaluate relevance of materials in existing collections.
- Oversees acquisitions budget for resources in all formats using Sirsi/Dynix Acquisitions Module.
- Tracks and analyzes collection and collection-sharing data to make informed decisions on purchases and deselections.
- Maintains and reports statistics required for audit including interim reports on fund expenditures and encumbrances.
- Receives and maintains acquisition records of gifts of all formats to the Library.
- Orders and manages payments for public performance rights for non-classroom showing of films by the library and by the campus community as requested.
- Participates in the Library Liaison program.
- Creates LibGuides research pages in Library Liaison areas. Oversees the creation of LibGuides by other librarians. Responsible for the SpringhouseSpringshare LibApps, including maintaining the online library calendar.
- Participates in the academic activities of the University and library organizations as assigned or requested.
- Creates and maintains library displays, in consultation with the library director, as well as, programs for the campus community.
- Creates publicity materials to inform about and promote the library.
- Serves as librarian in charge of the facility in the absence of Other responsibilities assigned by the Library Director as assigned.

Education/Experience
Master of Library Science or equivalent degree from an institution of higher learning accredited by the American Library Association. Training and experience in providing bibliographic and library instruction and reference services.
