TCLC Coordinator
KeymasterThe Music Library Technician works as part of a team, including the Music Librarian and full and part-time staff and student assistants, to ensure the day-to-day operation of the Presser Music Library. This position uses the library’s integrated library system and reserve management system and contributes to the access services and resource services functions of the Music Library; provides oversight for circulation, reserves, acquisitions, and stacks management; and monitors and troubleshoots library technology including printers, scanners, desktop, and laptop computers. The Music Library Technician provides information and assistance to library patrons, supervises part-time staff, and opens and closes the library, as necessary.
Located in the Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, the Presser Music Library team works closely with students and faculty in the Wells School of Music, as well as musicians in the surrounding community.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate customer service experience; excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to work collaboratively; strong project and time management skills; and familiarity with music library materials.
Responsibilities include:
Overseeing the Presser Music Library service desk and providing leadership in circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, and stacks management
Conveying information related to Music Library policies and procedures to patrons, and providing assistance with informational, directional, and known item inquiries
Monitoring and troubleshooting music library technology including printers, scanners, desktop, and laptop computers
Working with Music Library staff and faculty to plan, schedule, and coordinate library programs and events, and prepare special event materials
Contributing to outreach efforts such as the Music Library newsletter and social media accounts
Opening and closing the Music Library, and working at other University Libraries service desks, as necessary
Performing acquisitions procedures for Music Library materials, including scores, audio-visual recordings, and other formats as needed
Copy-cataloging new music materials
Overseeing physical processing of new materials, including bindery shipments
Planning and implementing inventory and other collection-related projects such as database clean-up, withdrawing items, etc.
Assisting with the recruitment, training and scheduling of work-study students assigned to the Music Library
Training and delegating tasks to Music Library Assistants
Participating in hiring processes through participation on search committees as requested
Reporting facility and security issues to Wells School of Music Administration and Library Administration, and Public Safety.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of library-clerical work including two years of advanced library clerical work comparable to the Library Assistant II, and graduation from high school OR
Two years of advanced library clerical work, and an associate degree or equivalent training with major course work in library science OR
A bachelor’s degree
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of library techniques, procedures, and working tools used in accessioning, cataloging, circulating, and maintaining library materials
Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in bibliography preparation and the use of library research materials
Knowledge of reader comprehension and interest levels of library patrons
Skill in the application of the techniques and procedures used in cataloging
Ability to apply library methods and principles in circulation and providing reader services
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other library personnel and the public
