Categories: Managerial, ResearchThe Director of Research Engagement and Scholarship (equivalent to an Associate Dean) will lead in identifying innovative partnerships and solutions by Rowan University Libraries that support research and instruction. The successful candidate will provide leadership in creating a vision for library engagement with research, scholarship, and teaching and learning on the Glassboro campus.
This administrative position will lead the team of professional librarians to foster a culture of research, scholarship, and learning and promote the value of inquiry and scholarly communications. This person will create an environment that maximizes experimentation, exploration, innovation, and the implementation of new approaches in a complex, changing environment. The Director will coordinate closely with the Director of User Services and Collections and partner with the Division of University Research. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work with a positive, flexible, and innovative attitude and will have a proven capacity to work effectively and collegially in teams. The Director will be instrumental in building partnerships across the University Libraries: Campbell Library in Glassboro, Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford and Sewell, and Cooper Medical School in Camden. This position will report to the Associate Provost for Library Information Services.
Major Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision: Lead, supervise, and support librarians in their professional and scholarly activities. Work with librarians to foster established campus collaborations and develop new partnerships.

Scholarly Communications and Data Curation
Digital Scholarship Center
Islandora and Digital Initiatives Working Group
Rowan Digital Works (Institutional Repository)Outreach and Engagement: Develop relationships with administrators to facilitate partnerships between librarians and faculty in the areas of research, scholarship, and teaching and learning. Maintain awareness of emerging library technologies and service trends. Support liaison librarians in the design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative outreach programs and services to achieve library objectives.
Research and Scholarly Publishing: Provide leadership for scholarly communications. This includes Open Education and Open Access resources, data management, digital projects and copyright. Identify strategies to acquire and support emerging research technologies.
Digital Initiatives: Lead Rowan University Libraries initiatives that enable global online access to the research and creative output of the university through digital projects such as Rowan Digital Works (RDW), “Research with New Jersey”, and Rowan Digital Collections. Develop and implement a Digital Preservation Strategy.
Professional Activity: Actively engage at the national level maintaining a record of scholarship for purposes of continuing education, outreach, information sharing and networking.
Qualifications:
MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution or extensive relevant library experience
10 years previous academic library experience, including 5 years of supervisory responsibility
Knowledge and understanding of the changing roles and technologies of academic and research libraries, including in the areas of research, scholarship, and teaching and learning
Knowledge of library operations
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in order to conceptualize and pursue new solutions to problems
Preferred:Second advanced degree (for example: EdD, MBA, MPA or PhD)
Outstanding interpersonal skills; excellence in written and oral communication
Ability to develop a strong collaborative working environment in libraries
Project planning experience
Experience working with Offices of Research (i.e. Vice President for Research)
Experience facilitating strategic planning in an academic environment
Facilitating professional development workshops
Experience in library instruction
Experience with a shared governance model and a bargaining unit environment
Familiarity with the standards for library scholarship needed for tenure and promotion of faculty within the University libraries
