TCLC Summer Camp 2008

Join us for hands-on explorations of cool tools in libraries, continuing the theme of last year’s popular technology series! All sessions will be held in Lourdes Library, Gwynedd-Mercy College.

Session A: 10am - noon
OMG! RSS!

  • look at rss applications in libraries
  • set up an rss reader
  • find rss feeds, add them to your new reader
  • explore rss offerings from journals & databases
 

Session B: 1pm - 3pm
Kum-Bai-Yahoo Pipes combine multiple RSS feeds into one using Yahoo! Pipes

  • find out why you would want to do that, anyway
  • make a widget to show feeds on your website

Canoe use MS Publisher?

  • explore Publisher layouts (brochures, newsletters, posters, etc.)
  • learn how to use text areas, insert images, and work with ordering and aligning
 

Session D: 1pm - 3pm
Snap, flash, crop
An image workshop

  • trim, resize, and compress images
  • learn how to change lighting & texture
  • upload images to Flickr

Screen capture the flag

    images & video
  • see examples of short tutorials created using these tools
 

Session F: 1pm - 3pm
S’more del.icio.us sites

  • explore library applications of social
    bookmarking sites, such as del.icio.us
  • Create a Google Custom Search Engine of selected sites
 
Thursday, July 17
 

Session G: 10am - noon
Blog cabin fever

  • look at different ways libraries are using blogs (news, new books, etc.)
  • create a Blogger account and a practice blog
  • discover ideas for developing content

Weaving Wikis
