Breakout Session F

Robert Cannell, Massage Therapist, self-employed
As part of my multi-faceted career history, I began performing volunteer massage for bike riders in Multiple Sclerosis Bike-a-Thons in 1993 around the Philadelphia area. Many of my clients decided I had the requisite skills and intuition, so I began studying Massage Therapy in 1994, obtaining my certification in March 1995. I soon found employment working in 2 chiropractors offices and a beauty salon. In 1997, I started as full-time massage therapist at Weston Fitness Center in Bala Cynwyd. I continued there thru various managements and ownerships until around 2003, when I struck out on my own. In my current massage practice, I am a true independent contractor traveling to client's homes. I am also employed at Steve's Sew and Vac in King of Prussia where I perform sales and service duties, as well as teaching a variety of sewing classes. If that's not enough, I own and operate a contract embroidery business which I run out of my home. I structure my presentation as lecture/demo with audience participation in various gentle movements and exercises. With appropriate caution, these can be followed by virtually any person in reasonably good health. Most of the movements and exercises can be done while seated, although a few do require standing. Even the standing ones can be modified as needed. I use an open forum so audience members can ask questions as I go along, or wait for a short Q+A session at the end.
